With a quick turnaround in fixtures, ATFPL brings you this Gameweek’s differentials article with an eye firmly on a pair of midfielders at altering price ranges who will be looking to make up for lost time.
After a quiet start to the season, Manchester United’s marquee signing, Henrikh Mkhitaryan from German side Borussia Dortmund has made his mark on the Premier League with two goals in his last two league appearances. With Manchester United having found their goal scoring touch in front of goal again, Mkhitaryan should continue to prosper if he can nail down a role on the right of Jose Mourinho’s midfield. In Mkhitaryan’s final season at Dortmund the 27-year-old produced an impressive 11 goals and 15 assists in 31 league appearances and if he can replicate that form for Manchester United the midfielder could prove to be an astute signing for any Fantasy Managers.
The fixtures continue to look kindly upon Manchester United who face MID, whu, LIV, stk and HUL in the next five Gameweeks all of which bodes extremely well for attacking returns from Mkhitaryan and company. Mkhitaryan is priced at 8.9 million and selected by 2.2% of teams ahead of this weekends deadline and if the Armenian international can continue to produce attacking returns there’s no doubt the midfielder will soon be finding himself in many more teams in 2017.
Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez broke onto the scene back in 2013/14 with 15 goals in what was an stellar season for the 27-year-old. However injuries soon caught up with Rodriguez who went on to play just 351 minutes in the two seasons that followed. Now in the 2016/17 season, Rodriguez looks to finally be fit and free of injury as he’s been tasked with carrying the goal scoring burden an injured Charlie Austin has left behind. Two goals in the South Coast derby back in Gameweek 17 served as a timely reminder to the footballing world that Rodriguez still had more to offer. If Rodriguez can grasp his first team opportunity in the absence of Charlie Austin and re-kindle the form of 2013/14 the 27-year-old could prove to be an excellent differential option in the coming weeks.
Rodriguez certainly has the platform to produce returns as Southampton face WBA, eve, bur, LEI and swa in the next five Gameweeks. Rodriguez who is listed as a midfielder in FPL is priced at just 6.3 million and owned by 0.6% of Fantasy Managers and if he can continue retain his role upfront in Claude Puel’s system, the out of position prospect could yet become the first name on many more team sheets.
