Bayern Munich: Klose backs ‘right coach’ Tuchel

-

Miroslav Klose is confident Thomas Tuchel is the right man to take Bayern Munich forward, despite Saturday’s humbling at Bayer Leverkusen.

Tuchel’s position has been questioned following the 3-0 defeat at the BayArena in a clash that was billed as a Bundesliga title showdown.

Bayern are now five points behind Xabi Alonso’s men but Klose, who played for Bayern between 2007 and 2011 before becoming assistant to Hansi Flick in 2020, feels the answer to the club’s problems can’t always be making a change in the dugout.

He told Sport Bild: “The criticism of him is too hard for me. I think he is the right coach for FC Bayern.

“It also takes patience, the first solution cannot always be to change the coach. It’s way too fast for me.”

Tuchel, who was appointed in March 2023, has been trying to make subtle adjustments to an ageing team and Klose believes the former Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss is right to introduce the likes of midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic into the team.

“A team structure needs variety, new stimuli, rejuvenation,” he added. “This fresh wind is good for a team, Tuchel has recognised that.”

Klose also backed experienced heads Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka to regain top form over the coming weeks and dismissed suggestions both should be sold in the summer.

He said: “At FC Bayern, there is quick criticism, both players have set the bar high.

“Kimmich and Goretzka are measured at the top level, and are immediately questioned but I wouldn’t sell either of them.”

Bayern return to action tomorrow night when they take on Lazio in Rome in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.
