Lothar Matthaus believes Bayern Munich’s current problems go way beyond coach Thomas Tuchel and the first-team squad.
Tuchel is under immense pressure after back-to back Bundesliga defeats that have enabled Bayer Leverkusen to open up an eight-point advantage at the top of the table, and a 1-0 defeat at Lazio that jeopardises the team’s progression in the Champions League.

Bayern as a club have always had ex-players in senior positions – Uli Hoeness and Franz Beckenbauer are former presidents – providing insight on the football side at an executive level.
And that is something Bayern are missing currently, according to Matthaus, who made over 400 appearances for the Bavarian giants.
He told Sky: “In the management group, there are some very successful people from the financial sector. I know them all and have a good relationship with them.
“But they lack sporting competence. Which of them have won a championship as a player?
“When Franz Beckenbauer gave a banquet speech after a lost game, it was silent. Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge could also rouse the players but who is doing that today?
“Where is the sporting competence in the current management structure?”
Matthaus says he would address that immediately and turn to the likes of Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger or Arjen Robben.
“If I could, I would go to these strong personalities of FC Bayern and find a position for them.”
Bayern will hope to get their season back on track – and ease the pressure on Tuchel – when they host RB Leipzig on Saturday.
