Rumours in the Italian media have suggested that Japanese international, Daichi Kamada, could leave Lazio as soon as the January transfer window.
Kamada joined the capital city club on a free transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt during the summer but only signed an one-year deal with The Eagles. There is an option to extend that by a further year at the end of this season but it appears as though the 27-year-old could be set for a short stay in the Italian capital, being described as ‘unsettled’.
So far this season, Kamada has made ten appearances in Serie A, starting the opening four matches of the season before being dropped to the bench and then only used as a second-half substitute in his next six games.
Lazio have stuttered quite significantly at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, under the management of Maurizio Sarri. They sit tenth during this November international break with just five victories in their opening 12 matches.
Over the summer, there was a little unrest at the club following the sale of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Saudi Pro League side, Al Hilal. Kamada, as a result, was seen as something of a replacement for the Serbian midfielder.
Kamada, born in Iyo, began his youth career with Kids FC and then Gamba Osaka and Higashiyama High School before beginning professionally with Sagan Tosu in 2015. He moved to Europe in 2017 with Eintracht Frankfurt and made 179 appearances for the German club, either side of spending a year out on loan in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League with Sint-Truiden; who are owned by a Japan-based electronics company and currently have eight Japanese players in their squad.
Whilst with Frankfurt, Kamada established himself as one of the better attacking midfielders in the Bundesliga and was essential as they won the 2022 UEFA Europa League.
Internationally, Kamada has scored seven goals in 31 caps for the Japanese national team and was a key part of the side that reached the knockout stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup last winter.
