Darmstadt: Coach vows to stand by humiliated players

-

Darmstadt’s beleaguered players will be feeling a little embarrassed this morning after footage of them being publicly berated by a supporter went viral.

The Bundesliga side had just been hammered 6-0 at home to Augsburg to continue a miserable season which sees them sit at the foot of the table having accumulated just 13 points from 24 games.

The last thing they wanted was public humiliation but that is exactly what transpired when one of the club’s ultras came down from the stands to dish out an almighty rollocking at full-time.

Remarkably the players stood there and took it with their heads bowed.

Darmstart are without a win in 17 league games and seemingly heading to the 2.Bundesliga with a whimper.

And things are likely to get worse before they get better as their next two games pits them against RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich.

Coach Torsten Lieberknecht said: “No matter how the season continues, we have to defend ourselves with our heads held high. We did not do this today in the way we set out to do.

“We are all shocked by the outcome of this game. But I want to hold my hand protectively over my players, because I know that such things can happen, and I will continue to stand up for the team.”
