Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall would not speak regarding rumours that the Women’s Super League side are interested in signing Manchester United and England goalkeeper Mary Earps.
The 30-year-old stopper is coming off the back of a magnificent FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign which saw her star for the Lionesses, saving a penalty in the final and pulling off plenty of memorable stops over the course of the tournament.
Earps’ contract at Manchester United expires at the end of next season and the Red Devils have already rejected a bid from an unnamed club last month. Eidevall though, refused to comment on whether the Gunners were the club who made that bid in his pre-match press conference ahead of his team’s UEFA Women’s Champions League clash against Paris FC.
“Individuals we never comment on. We remain active in the transfer market. “There might be business to be done but no comment on that specific individual.”
With Earps between the sticks, England conceded only four goals in seven World Cup games, which earned her the Golden Glove award. Only last year Earps had been named in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament for Euro 2022 after letting in just two goals as England were crowned European champions at Wembley, beating Germany in the final after extra time.
Arsenal have already signed one Man Utd and England player this summer, forward Alessia Russo joining the Gunners on a free transfer following the expiry of her contract. United will be desperate to avoid a similar scenario with Earps and are expected to offer her a bumper contract extension in a bid to convince their first-choice keeper to stay in the North West.
The Women’s Super League transfer window slams shut on September 14th, with plenty of business expected to be done between now and then.
