The Reds will return to European action against Czech opponents who beat Galatasaray 6-4 in the knockout play-offs on Thursday.

The ties for the British clubs have been provisionally scheduled to take place on March 7 and 14 2024, with the winners over two legs advancing to the quarter-finals.

Liverpool won the competition in 1973, 1976 and 2001, while West Ham reached the semi-finals in 2021/22 – the same season in which Rangers lost in the final for the second time in 14 years.

Brighton have impressed in their first ever season in Europe, winning their group courtesy of an 88th-minute Joao Pedro goal at home to Marseille.

Europa League draw: Liverpool face Sparta again

All four teams won their groups, meaning they were paired with winners from the play-offs between second-placed teams in the draw.

The Reds have faced Sparta in the competition before, winning 1-0 on aggregate in the 2010/11 round of 32.

Former Netherlands forward Dirk Kuyt scored the only goal of the tie after 86 minutes of the second leg at Anfield, and manager Jurgen Klopp might hope for a more comfortable passage to the final eight this time around.

Sparta pictured their squad and coaching staff smiling and hugging each other after watching the draw.

Uefa expects to confirm the dates and kick-off times of the fixtures later on Friday.
