Gareth Southgate says he has not made a decision regarding his future as England manager, adding it will be impossible to do so until after Euro 2024.
Southgate came close to walking away in the aftermath of England’s quarter-final defeat to France at the 2022 World Cup, only to commit to staying until the end of his contract.
He is preparing to lead the Three Lions to a fourth major tournament in Germany this summer, ahead of his deal with the Football Association expiring in December.

While Southgate had been expected to depart regardless of how England fare at the Euros, he says he will not be able to take any decisions until the tournament is over.
“There’s a fair chance half the coaches won’t be here after the Euros. That’s international football,” Southgate said at Thursday’s UEFA Nations League draw in Paris.
“You’ve got to see how the summer goes. It’s as simple as that.
“In my view, I know what we’re capable of achieving in the summer. I know what my own benchmark of success would be. After that, I’m not really thinking about anything else.

“It’s always been exciting to take the team, whatever the strengths of the squad. In the end, we’ve got to deliver a performance and you’ve got to make the best decisions for everybody.
“I won’t be in a position to make that decision before the tournament.”
The Three Lions begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on June 16, before facing Denmark and Slovenia in their other Group C fixtures.
England were drawn alongside the Republic of Ireland, Finland and Greece in Group B2 for the next edition of the Nations League, having been relegated from the competition’s top tier in 2022-23. The 2024-25 edition of the tournament starts in September.
