Harry Kane targets Champions League glory after ‘unbelievable’ Arsenal win

-

Harry Kane said Bayern Munich’s expectation is to win the Champions League after they advanced to the semi-finals with a hard-fought victory over his old rivals Arsenal on Wednesday.

Kane was quiet during a cagey second leg at the Allianz Arena, but that mattered not as Joshua Kimmich’s second-half header handed Bayern a 1-0 win and sent them through 3-2 on aggregate.

Bayern saw their 11-year stranglehold on the Bundesliga crown end on Sunday as still-unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen wrapped up their first title with five games to spare, but the Champions League could yet provide Kane with the chance to lift his first major trophy.

Speaking to TNT Sports after Wednesday’s game, the former Tottenham striker said: “It’s an unbelievable win. It’s been a tough season for us. We’ve had to fight and grind it out at times.

“We knew it could make the difference with our fans at home. It was a tough game, a tight game and it was a great goal from Josh.

“I think in these types of games the first half is always a bit cagey. We said at half-time we wanted to up the tempo, be aggressive.

“We had a couple off the post and we could have made it easier for ourselves, but these games are always tough and you just have to get through them.”

Kane feels complacency may have crept into Bayern’s game in the Bundesliga, and he knows that cannot be the case as they bid to win Europe’s premier club competition for a seventh time.

“To reach the semi-finals is a great achievement for us and we can enjoy it. The expectation here is to try and win the Champions League,” Kane added.

“We won the league for 11 years in a row so maybe there was a bit of tempo missing. That can’t happen. Now we have to enjoy the Champions League.”
