Harry Kane returns to light training with Bayern after England withdrawal

-

Harry Kane has returned to light training with Bayern Munich following his withdrawal from the England squad, the Bundesliga champions have confirmed.

Kane suffered an ankle injury during his last club outing, colliding with the goal post in the latter stages of Bayern’s 5-2 win over Darmstadt on March 16.

He still joined Gareth Southgate’s England squad for their friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, but he was absent as Ollie Watkins started up front during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to the Selecao.

After that game, Southgate revealed Kane would not be ready to face Belgium and would return to his club, with Ivan Toney expected to start for the Three Lions.

On Monday, an update posted to Bayern’s website read: “Harry Kane completed an individual training session at FC Bayern’s training ground on Monday morning.

“The 30-year-old striker worked with the ball on the pitch at Säbener Strasse alongside fitness coach Holger Broich.”

Kane has 38 goal involvements in just 26 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring 31 and assisting seven.

The former Tottenham star is chasing Robert Lewandowski’s single-season Bundesliga goal record, with the now-Barcelona striker having netted 41 times for Bayern in 2020-21.

Bayern will be desperate to recover Kane as quickly as possible, with the Bavarian giants hosting ‘Der Klassiker’ rivals Borussia Dortmund in their next league game on Saturday.

They then go to Heidenheim one week later, before facing Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Emirates Stadium.
