Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, is set to welcome former Barcelona defender Jordi Alba to their ranks, according to club president Jorge Mas. Alba, who left Barcelona at the end of last season, will reunite with his former teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets at the Miami-based club.
The 34-year-old left back enjoyed a distinguished career at Barcelona, amassing over 450 appearances for the club. During his time at Camp Nou, Alba lifted numerous trophies, including the coveted UEFA Champions League in 2015. He also secured six LaLiga titles, five Copa del Rey titles, four Spanish Super Cups, and the Club World Cup.
With more than 90 caps for the Spanish national team, Alba brings a wealth of experience and skill to Inter Miami. His addition strengthens the ex-Barcelona contingent at the club, with both Messi and Busquets having already joined.
In an interview with TyC Sports, club president Jorge Mas confirmed Alba’s signing, stating, “He has already signed his contract and will arrive in the next few days. Tata (coach Gerardo Martino) is counting on him.”
Inter Miami’s ambitions don’t stop there, as they also set their sights on another former Barcelona player, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, currently playing for Gremio in Brazil. Mas acknowledged that discussions have taken place but emphasized respect for Suarez’s current club affiliation, saying, “He is a Gremio player, and I respect that.”
In addition to Alba, Inter Miami has secured the services of Paraguayan midfielder Diego Gomez from Libertad. The club has also initiated contact with Argentine side Racing Club to inquire about the availability of Tomas Aviles, indicating their intent to further strengthen the squad.
Inter Miami, co-owned by former Manchester United and England midfielder David Beckham, is building a formidable team in their quest for success in the MLS. The reunion of Barcelona legends Alba, Messi, and Busquets brings immense talent and familiarity to the club, setting the stage for an exciting chapter in their journey.
As the new MLS season approaches, Inter Miami supporters eagerly await the arrival of their star-studded roster. The combination of experience, skill, and the reunion of former Barcelona teammates injects a sense of optimism and anticipation into the club and its fans.
