Kaoru Mitoma has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with Brighton, the Premier League club announced on Friday.
Mitoma joined the Seagulls in 2021 and spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise. The 26-year-old has been a revelation since making his Brighton debut in August 2022, establishing himself as a key player in their rise to prominence, contributing 13 goals and 12 assists from 52 appearances.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi described Mitoma as a “top player” while technical director David Weir added: “Ensuring that a player of Kaoru’s quality will remain with us for the long term is fantastic news.
“Kaoru adapted to the Premier League last season and has quickly become one of our most important players.
“His success is also a reflection of the work of the departments that have played a role in his recruitment, helped him gain important experience on loan and ultimately become a big part of Roberto’s first team group.
“I have no doubt that our supporters will be delighted with the news.”
