Real Madrid could well pursue Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala as an alternative option if they are unsuccessful in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe. The French World Cup champion has been continuously linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu over the past two years.
In 2021, Real Madrid had a £171.7 million bid for Mbappe rejected by PSG. Last year, they sought to acquire Mbappe on a free transfer, but he extended his contract with PSG until 2024. In the summer, Mbappe was the subject of more transfer rumours when he made it clear that he had no intention of activating a one-year contract extension clause with PSG.
Despite a period of exclusion from PSG’s pre-season, Mbappe was reintegrated into Luis Enrique’s squad before the current campaign. While Mbappe remains at the Parc des Princes, the stories linking him to Real Madrid have not subsided. Real Madrid even had to issue a statement to denounce “completely false” reports suggesting that talks were already underway to bring Mbappe to Madrid.
Regardless of this, Real Madrid’s association with Mbappe has not abated.
However, as reported by Bild, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are considering a deal for Bayern’s Musiala if they are unable to secure Mbappe’s signature in 2024. Real Madrid appears to be banking on the presence of Jude Bellingham to influence Musiala’s decision, as Musiala and Bellingham are friends from their time playing together at the England youth level (Musiala ultimately chose to represent birth country Germany at international level). Additionally, the 20-year-old has attracted interest from the Premier League, with Manchester City and Liverpool reportedly in the mix.
Amidst the speculation surrounding Musiala’s future, Bayern Munich are eager to extend his current contract, which is set to run until June 2026. Bayern’s CEO, Jan-Christian Dressen, has expressed the club’s commitment to securing a new deal with one of their most prized assets. Musiala, however, has chosen to delay discussions about his future until the end of the season.
