Real Madrid midfielder Camavinga out until 2024 with knee ligament rupture

-

Real Madrid and France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is set to miss between eight and 10 weeks of action after suffering a ligament rupture in his right knee.

Camavinga left a training session with his national team on Wednesday with an apparent knee problem, returning to his club to undergo tests.

An MRI scan at Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex subsequently revealed he had ruptured the external lateral ligament in his right knee, the club confirmed on Friday.

While France have already confirmed their place at Euro 2024, wrapping up top spot in their qualification group ahead of fixtures against Gibraltar and Greece, Camavinga’s injury comes as a major blow to his club.

Camavinga has made 17 appearances for Los Blancos across all competitions this season, filling in at left-back as well featuring in a more natural midfield role in Carlo Ancelotti’s new-look 4-3-1-2 system.

Madrid were already without Camavinga’s compatriot and fellow midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who is unlikely to return until mid-December at the earliest after suffering a metatarsal fracture in last month’s 2-1 win over Barcelona.

The hero of that Clasico win, Jude Bellingham, was also forced to withdraw from the England squad for games against Malta and North Macedonia with a shoulder injury earlier this week.

However, Madrid are hopeful Bellingham will be available when they return to action in LaLiga after the international break, with Ancelotti’s team visiting Cadiz on November 26.
