The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have extended the contract of national team coach Luis de la Fuente until after the 2026 World Cup.
De la Fuente’s previous deal was due to expire following this summer’s European Championship but the 62-year-old has done enough to convince the RFEF to activate the option for a two-year extension.

An RFEF statement read: “The Management Commission considers the renewal of De La Fuente is a necessary step for the national team and for the institution that directs football in Spain, by providing stability to the national team in preparation for the European Championship, which will begin in June.”
De la Fuente replaced Luis Enrique following Spain’s disappointing exit from the 2022 World Cup at the round of 16 stage.
He led the team to the Nations League title in June last year thanks to a penalty shoot-out victory over Croatia in the final.
