Andreas Brehme, the match-winner for West Germany in the 1990 World Cup final, has died at the age of 63.
Brehme, who played for the likes of Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich and Inter in a glittering career, won 86 caps for his country.

He played in West Germany’s 1986 World Cup final defeat to Argentina in Mexico and scored the only goal from the penalty spot four years later in a re-match between the sides in Rome.
His partner Susanne Schaefer told the DPA news agency: “With deep sadness, I inform you on behalf of the family that my partner Andreas Brehme died suddenly and unexpectedly as a result of a cardiac arrest.
“We ask you to maintain our privacy at this difficult time.”

Bayern tweeted this morning: “FC Bayern are extremely saddened by the sudden passing of Andreas Brehme.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. Andreas Brehme will forever be in our hearts, as a World Cup winner and, more importantly, as a very special person.
“He will forever be part of the FC Bayern family. Rest in peace, Andi!”
