As the start of the 2023-24 Fantasy Premier League season draws ever closer, we take a look at the wide range of players available for FPL managers to purchase, picking out some excellent value options in all positions.
In this article, we focus on the best premium forwards who are available at £7.0m or more.
Erling Haaland (£14.0m) – Man City
Any FPL article highlighting the best forwards available to purchase isn’t worth reading if Erling Haaland doesn’t sit at the very top of the list. No player accumulated more fantasy points in 2022-23 than the Norwegian superstar’s whopping 272 points in his debut season for Man City. Haaland ended the season with 52 goals across 53 games in all competitions, 36 of those coming in the Premier League, breaking the record held previously by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer. He also managed nine assists, not to mention six Premier League hat-tricks which ensure some monster fantasy hauls. Unsurprisingly, the 23-year-old is the most expensive player in the 2023-24 FPL game, but even £14m feels cheap when considering what Haaland can do and over 80% of managers have already locked him into their squads for Gameweek One.
Harry Kane (£12.5m) – Spurs
It went under the radar just how good a season Harry Kane had in 2022-23 from an FPL point of view, mainly due to Haaland’s incredible numbers. The reality is that the Spurs and England striker finished just nine fantasy points behind Haaland and actually outscored the Man City forward from Gameweek Two onwards. In the end, Kane racked up 30 league goals (his highest tally in a single season) and nine assists. Priced at £1.5m less than Haaland, those FPL managers unable to pay £14.0m can plump for Kane as an alternative. However, speculation over his future rumbles on, with Bayern Munich still heavily interested in signing him. There is also the fact that Spurs now have a new manager in Ange Postecoglou and it remains to be seen whether this affects Kane’s FPL efficiency.
Ollie Watkins (£8.0m) – Aston Villa
Under the command of Unai Emery, Watkins has taken his game to the next level and was a golden asset for FPL managers in the second half of last season. The Aston Villa forward finished the campaign with 15 goals, eight assists and 175 fantasy points, his best score yet in three seasons playing at this level. A full pre-season under Emery is likely to see Watkins kick on further and big things are expected of him from FPL managers, which is reflected in his current popularity, with only Haaland boasting a higher ownership percentage among forwards.
