FPL 2023-24 – Double Gameweek 7 Round-Up

-

Here’s a summary of all the key FPL talking points from Double Gameweek 7.

Many FPL managers focussed their attention on Luton assets given the pair of favourable fixtured they were handed, with Carlton Morris (£5.6m) particularly sought-after. The Hatters striker duly came through for his new owners when he found the net in Luton’s first fixture of the gameweek against Everton. Although he blanked in Luton’s second fixture against fellow promoted side Burnley on Tuesday evening, only one forward score more points than the £5.6m-priced forward in Double Gameweek 7.

And that player was of course Ollie Watkins (£8.0m), who registered the biggest points haul of the season with his hat-trick and two assists giving him an incredible score of 23 points. The Aston Villa striker’s ownership is rapidly increasing as a result, especially ahead of what many deem to be a favourable set of fixtures for the Midlands side. Partner-in-crime Moussa Diaby (£6.7m) was also involved in the thrashing of Brighton as he made two assists, taking him to six attacking returns for the season.

Bukayo Saka (£8.6m) went through a bit of a rollercoaster in DGW7. There were concerns the Arsenal winger might miss out against Bournemouth through injury, but he started the game and went on to open the scoring against the Cherries. It could have been so much more for his FPL owners, but not for the first time this season Saka gave up penalty duty to deprive himself of more points. The fact that it happened twice in the match was particularly tough to take for owners, with Martin Odegaard (£8.5m) and Kai Havertz (£7.1m) benefitting from Saka’s generosity. Odegaard in particular had an excellent day at the office, with a goal and two assists producing a 17-point return – the second highest of the gameweek.

After accumulating a mammoth 18 points in Gameweek 6, Kieran Trippier (£6.8m) was brought in by droves of FPL managers ahead of DGW7, and the Newcastle right-back did not disappoint against Burnley with a clean sheet, assist and maximum bonus combining for a healthy 12-point return. Those who opted for Sven Botman (£4.7m), however, were disappointed to see the centre-back miss out through injury.

The biggest talking point of the weekend, of course, was the VAR controversy in the Tottenham vs Liverpool clash. From an FPL perspective, Mo Salah’s long streak of goal involvements was brought to and when he was denied an assist for a goal that should have stood, while at the other end of the pitch, the in-form Heung-Min Son (£9.3m) scored his sixth goal in his last four Premier League matches.

There was disappointment for the vast majority of FPL managers who captained Erling Haaland (£14.1m), with the Norwegian failing to get on the scoresheet in the defeat to Wolves, but fellow Man City forward Julian Alvarez (£7.0m) was back amongst the goals with his sublime free-kick amounting to his eighth goal involvement of the Premier League season.
