FPL 2023-24 – Gameweek 1 Highest Scorers

-

Following the conclusion of the first Fantasy Premier League gameweek of the 2023-24 campaign, we cast an eye on the players who finished top of the table in terms of most FPL points scored.

Raphael Varane (£5.0m) – 14 Points
Going into Monday night and the final fixture of Gameweek 1, we had a three-way-tie for top spot when it came to most FPL points scored. However, that tie was broken by Man Utd centre-back Raphael Varane, who gained 14 points in his side’s narrow 1-0 win over Wolves. Varane headed home the winning goal inside the final 15 minutes from an Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross. Add that to a clean sheet alongside two bonus points and the French defender ended the match with more Gameweek 1 points than any other player. Wan-Bissaka isn’t far behind him though, having recorded 12 points.

Erling Haaland (£14.0m) – 13 Points
It will be to the surprise of very little that Erling Haaland sits high on the list when it comes to Gameweek 1 point-scorers. Man City’s star forward needed just four minutes to open his account for the new season against Burnley and when the Norwegian added a second on 36 minutes, a monster haul was looking a possibility. However, a brace was all Haaland would get this time round as three inevitable bonus points saw him finish on 13 points.

Alexander Isak (£7.6m) – 13 Points
Like Haaland, Alexander Isak was also on the scoresheet twice as Newcastle recorded a statement 5-1 triumph vs Aston Vila. The Swedish striker put Newcastle 2-1 ahead with a smart finish before his searing pace saw him dispossess a Villa defender and double his tally in the 58th minute. Isak was substituted off ten minutes later but his ownership will have been more than happy with his efforts.

Rodri (£5.6m) – 13 Points
The second Man City player to accumulate 13 points in Gameweek 1 was midfielder Rodri, who has a habit of popping up in goalscoring positions from set pieces. After assisting Erling Haaland’s Gameweek 1 opener with a header across goal, Rodri got on the scoresheet himself in the second-half, smashing home a loose ball following a free kick to seal a 0-3 triumph for the champions away at Burnley.
