With the international break coming to a close, it’s time to focus in on FPL goalkeepers as Gameweek 5 approaches.
Remarkably, there were a mere two clean sheets in Gameweek 4 with only Nottingham Forest and Liverpool managing to prevent their respective opponents from scoring. Alisson (£5.5m) scored the most fantasy points in his position, with Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa yielding eight points for the Brazilian thanks to his clean sheet, three saves and bonus point. Matt Turner (£4.0m), meanwhile, returned five points in Nottingham Forest’s excellent 0-1 win at Chelsea. For both goalkeepers, it was their first clean sheet of the season, but Turner owners may be slightly concerned about Forest signing goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos (£4.5m) not long before the transfer deadline. Liverpool travel to Wolves in the opening fixture of Gameweek 5, while Nottingham Forest complete the gameweek by hosting promoted side Burnley on Monday.
The only other shot-stoppers who accumulated more than two points were Ederson (£5.6m) and Jose Sa (£5.0m), with the Man City and Wolves number ones both conceding against their respective opponents but reached three points thanks to their save totals.
In terms of overall points, it is Tottenham’s new man between the sticks, Vicario (£5.1m), who tops the bill with 21 points accumulated over his first four fixtures. Spurs welcome Sheffield Utd at home in Gameweek 5, and their Italian goalkeeper remains largely overlooked by the FPL masses with an ownership of just 5.3% at the time of writing.
Not far behind Vicario is West Ham’s budget option Alphonse Areola (£4.1m), who sits on 20 points overall. Many of his FPL owners will have been benching the Hammers stopper in the first few gameweeks, largely due to his price, but that might start to change should the former PSG and Real Madrid man maintain his current output.
