As we draw closer to the resumption of Fantasy Premier League following a two-week break, we assess those midfielders who stand out heading into Gameweek 5.
Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo (£6.8m) ended the first four gameweeks as the top scoring FPL midfielder, having accrued 33 points. Facing a Newcastle side who have lost each of their last three Premier League fixtures, it would be no surprise to see him add another healthy return to that total in Gameweek 5.
James Maddison (£7.8m) is coming off the back of scoring in consecutive gameweeks, to go alongside his two assists in Gameweek 1, the midfielder’s Spurs debut. His rising ownership will be confident of further attacking returns in Gameweek 5, which sees Ange Postecoglou’s side at home to Sheffield Utd.
Always a popular investment and reliable FPL asset, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) has scored or assisted in each of his last eight Premier League appearances, stretching back to last season. On the back of three straight 5-point-scores, the Egyptian will be looking for a big haul away at Wolves, as will Liverpool teammate Luis Diaz (£7.7m) who found the net in gameweeks 1 and 2.
West Ham host Man City in Gameweek 5, a fixture which sees a selection of high-performing fantasy midfielders in action on both sides. For the Hammers, James Ward-Prowse (£6.1m) is yet to go a single game without recording at least one attacking return for his new club, accruing three assists, a goal and 22 FPL points, whilst Jarrod Bowen (£7.1m) has racked up three goals, one assist and 30 points.
On the visiting side, Phil Foden (£7.6m) has gained an assist in each of the past three gameweeks, most recently coming off the bench to set up Man City’s winning goal away at Sheffield Utd. However, the current highest-scoring FPL asset among Man City’s midfield is Rodri (£5.7m), who has acquired 27 points thanks largely to his two goals and one assist so far this season.
