The twelfth gameweek of the 2023-24 season was packed with entertainment on the pitch, which has led to plenty of questions from a Fantasy Premier League point of view. We’ve picked out three of the most pertinent points with an eye on Gameweek 13 post international break.
CAN HAALAND & SALAH BE SEPERATED?
Following the conclusion of Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Brentford, those who captained Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) would have been celebrating a big 16-point haul following two goals from the Egyptian. The expectation was that Erling Haaland (£14.0m) most likely wouldn’t be able to match that score away at Chelsea. Those expectations though were wrong, as Haaland proceeded to net two goals of his own along with an assist in a thrilling 4-4, to accrue 16 FPL points of his own. Picking a captain moving forward is going to be extremely difficult for fantasy managers with both Salah and Haaland emphatically stating their respective cases.
PALMER THE MOST VALUABLE CHEAP OPTION?
“City’s boy is Chelsea’s man”. The words of Peter Drury after calling Cole Palmer (£5.2m) scoring his fourth penalty of the season deep into stoppage time to salvage Chelsea a point against the champions. As it stands, Palmer is fast turning into the main man for most FPL bosses with attacking returns aplenty, four goals and three assists since Gameweek 7, not to mention 43 fantasy points. A steal at just £5.2m (although that price is quickly rising), it can be argued that there isn’t a better value player within the FPL player-base at present than Palmer.
REGRESSION AHEAD FOR SPURS?
A second consecutive Premier League defeat for Spurs will see questions asked regarding their respective FPL assets after Wolves staged a memorable second-half injury time turnaround, coming back from 0-1 down to win 2-1 at Molineux. Although Ange Postecoglou is undoubtedly an excellent manager more than capable of turning things around quickly, the suspension of Cristian Romero (£5.0m) and injury to Micky van de Ven (£4.6m) must be having a detrimental impact on Spurs’ backline. Romero remains out for the following two gameweeks, although Destiny Udogie (£4.8m) should return in Gameweek 13.
