The ninth gameweek of the 2023-24 season ended this past Monday night and we’ve plenty to digest following the first round of fixtures played following the second international break. Therefore, three of the most important fantasy related developments have been picked out as we turn our thoughts towards Gameweek 10.
PALMER THE ROUTE TO SALAH?
Last week in this very article, we highlighted the importance of getting Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) into your FPL squads as soon as possible and those who took heed were rewarded, the Egyptian scoring both goals and gaining 16 fantasy points in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Everton. His premium price-tag does not make it easy to bring him in, but in Cole Palmer (£5.0m) we may have found the ideal cheap midfielder to help fund a Salah transfer. Palmer has started in each of Chelsea’s last three Premier League games, picking up four attacking returns in the process. Both of his two goals were via the penalty spot, a further incentive for FPL managers eying up Palmer. An attacking midfielder starting regularly for Chelsea represents a steal at his current price and just as importantly, the funds you save from transferring in the 21-year-old, could well unlock a route to Salah, if he isn’t already in your side.
SON A SEASON KEEPER?
Although Ange Postecoglou does tend to prefer substituting him off the pitch before full-time, Heung-Min Son (£9.5m) continues to show the sort of goalscoring form that makes him as valuable an asset that he was back in 2021-22 when he finished the season with 23 league goals, ten assists and 258 FPL points. Son’s goal against Fulham on Monday night took his overall tally to seven for the campaign and an assist helped him to 14 points in Gameweek 9. Only Salah and Ollie Watkins boast a higher overall FPL score than Son’s 68 points and right now, he’s a player well worth holding onto for the long-haul.
BOWEN STRIKES AGAIN ON THE ROAD
There’s no stopping Jarrod Bowen (£7.4m) at the moment when West Ham are away from home. His consolation goal in a 4-1 defeat for the Hammers at Aston Villa was his fifth consecutive away goal in the Premier League. Of Bowen’s 58 fantasy points acquired so far in 2023-24, 43 of those points have come from away fixtures. It’s important to note that Gameweek 10 sees David Moyes’ side host Everton, so statistically the chances of Bowen blanking are higher.
