It has been a week since Fantasy Premier League restarted for the new season, meaning that players have started building their first drafts for the start of the campaign. For each position in FPL, here are the most-selected players for 2023-24 so far and why they are the most popular in their area of the field.
Aaron Ramsdale (Goalkeeper, 28%)
After establishing himself as Arsenal’s number one in his first season at the North London club in 2021-22, Ramsdale did not miss a single minute of league action in his second campaign. After notching up 14 clean sheets, the England international finished FPL 2022-23 with an impressive 143 points.
Being priced at £5m, he is a cheaper option than other popular ‘keepers such Alisson, Ederson and Nick Pope. This possibly is the reason why the former Sheffield United shot-stopper has been chosen the most by FPL players.
Another factor impacting his popularity this summer is that Arsenal have three easy looking opening fixtures on paper, against Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Fulham.
Pervis Estupinan (Defender, 51.5%)
The Ecuador defender was snatched up by Brighton at the start of last season for a fee of just under £15m. In the 2020-21 season, he won the Europa League with Villarreal and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League the year after, attracting the interest of the Seagulls.
In his first campaign in England, Estupinan played 35 times in the league, scoring once against Arsenal and providing seven assists in FPL. This resulted in the highly-rated left back picking up a total of 128 points, which has made him the most sought-after defender in FPL going into this season.
Bukayo Saka (Midfielder, 50.3%)
As Arsenal showcased their quality at the beginning of last season, the Gunners’ midfielders and attackers were popular in many FPL teams. This trend is set to continue into the new season, with Saka coming in as the most selected midfielder.
The 2021-22 season saw the England talent score 11 goals with seven assists, which was bettered in the last campaign with Saka scoring 14 times and collecting 12 assists in FPL. His total points were 202 and this has made him a must-pick in many people’s teams for the 2023-24 season.
The next highest owned Arsenal midfielder is Martin Ødegaard with the Arsenal captain being chosen by 20.4% of players. This highlights how FPL players believe Saka is the key outfield Arsenal asset to choose for the new season.
Erling Haaland (Forward, 85.4%)
There has never been a player in FPL that has been selected more than Haaland. Last season he did not disappoint any managers after hitting a 272-point tally, with the Norwegian scoring a record-breaking 36 goals and registering nine assists in FPL. Even though his cost is £14m, this has not put off many FPL players in selecting him for their side. Manchester City’s opening six fixtures also look good for goal scoring, with Pep Guardiola’s side only facing one team that finished in the top six last season.
The second highest owned forward so far is Gabriel Jesus, with the difference between the two selection percentages being a massive 53.2%, revealing how no one is coming close to Haaland in terms of team selection.
