Bayern Munich are trying to sign two more Premier League players before the summer transfer deadline at the end of this week.
The Bavarians are attempting to bring in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah and are also expected to make an offer for Fulham’s defensive midfielder, Joao Palhinha.
Thomas Tuchel’s German champions have already made five additions this summer with the free transfer arrivals of Raphael Guerreiro and Konrad Laimer from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig respectively, as well as Kim Min-jae from Napoli, England captain Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur and Maccabi Tel-Aviv goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.
However, Tuchel has spoken of his desire to sign a ‘number six’ throughout the summer transfer window and, despite Bayern bosses reportedly being keen to avoid significant outlay on that position, they do now appear to have a strong interest in Palhinha.
Trevoh Chalobah’s move is one that suits all parties with Benjamin Pavard set to join Serie A side Internazionale, Chalobah not getting starting minutes with Chelsea and the former Ipswich Town loanee slots perfectly into the hybrid role of a right centre-back or right-back.
Chalobah, the brother of former Watford midfielder Nathaniel, began his professional career with an aforementioned move to Ipswich on loan in 2018 before stints at Huddersfield Town and Lorient.
He was a favourite of Tuchel’s at Stamford Bridge, though, and has gone on to make 63 first-team appearances for The Blues but remains uncapped by England.
Joao Palhinha would be set to cost Bayern in the region of £60 million and take their spending past the £200 million mark for this summer.
The Portuguese international joined The Cottagers from Sporting CP, where he won the Portuguese Primeira Liga, and impressed in his first Premier League campaign with the likes of Liverpool and West Ham United also showing an interest.
