Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena will be illuminated with a tribute to the late Franz Beckenbauer following his death, the club have announced.
Beckenbauer, who made 582 appearances for Bayern, helping the club win four Bundesliga titles and three successive European Cups, passed away at the age of 78 on Sunday.
The former defender, who also managed Bayern and served as the club’s president after the end of his playing career, is seen by many as the greatest player in German football history.

As well as captaining his country to glory at Euro 1972, he is one of just three men to win the FIFA World Cup as both a player and a manager, alongside Brazil’s Mario Zagallo and France’s Didier Deschamps.
Beckenbauer captained Germany as they beat Johan Cruyff’s legendary ‘Total Football’ Netherlands side to win the 1974 World Cup, before overseeing their 1990 triumph in Italy from the dugout.
