Guardiola & Maguire Scoop Premier League Prizes

-

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has been named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for November, whilst Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has taken the gong of Player of the Month.

It is the 12th time in his stint in England that Guardiola has won the award for the league’s best manager in the previous month but the first time since December 2021. Maguire has never been the Premier League’s Player of the Month.

Guardiola wins the managerial award on the back of helping City reestablish themselves at the top-of-the-table as they seek to defend their title. Albeit they have slipped down to fourth after a tricky start to the month of December.

In November, Manchester City did only manage one victory in their three matches, too, though. They began the month with a 6-1 thrashing of AFC Bournemouth before sharing a thrilling 4-4 draw with Chelsea and then being held to a 1-1 draw with Liverpool after the international break.

They come up against Luton Town this weekend at Kenilworth Road as they aim to end what is now a four-match winless run of form in the top-flight.

Harry Maguire was stripped of the Manchester United captaincy over the summer, replaced by Bruno Fernandes, and was seemingly being pushed out of the club but reportedly rejected a move to West Ham United during the transfer window.

His England place for UEFA EURO 2024 was coming under major threat as he struggled to get into the United eleven but an injury crisis followed by some much-improved personal form has meant he is now back as a key cog in the United backline.

He helped United keep three successive clean sheets with three successive victories against Fulham, Luton Town and then Everton in the month of November. The Red Devils sit four points off the top four as they host AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford this weekend.
