Reports that Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann may be moving to the Premier League in the January transfer window have been rubbished as having ‘nothing’ in them.
The France international attacker had been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent days with the Red Devils set to have a new look football model in the coming weeks and months.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is leading the INEOS group to a 25% share of the club and when that is officially ratified by the Premier League, it is expected that they will take control of the footballing operations at Old Trafford.
As a result, there is an expectation that there will be investment in the January transfer window as the club seek reinforcements to steady the ship. Erik ten Hag’s side have struggled for any fluency or form across all competitions throughout the early stages of the 2023/24 season.
Griezmann was one of the key reported targets but it is believed that the 32-year-old is ‘fully focused’ on completing the season with Los Rojiblancos as they target a challenge for the Spanish title.
The forward, who has also played a lot of football in midfield in the more recent part of his career, has scored 44 goals in 126 caps for the French national team.
Since rejoining Atletico Madrid on an initial season-long loan deal in the summer of 2021 after an underwhelming stint with La Liga rivals Barcelona, Griezmann has become a key cog in the Atletico system again under the management of Diego Simeone.
It is believed that Manchester United will be eyeing up a forward in the January window, as well as potentially going in for another defender as well as another goalkeeper with reports suggesting that Altay Bayindir is not necessarily trusted to be number one for the club in the absence of Andre Onana, who is set to join the Cameroonian national squad at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations in the early part of next year.
