Steven Gerrard has signed a two-year extension to his contract with Al-Ettifaq, committing to the Saudi Pro League side until 2027.
Gerrard was appointed Al-Ettifaq boss last July, eight months after he was sacked by Aston Villa with the club hovering just outside the Premier League’s relegation zone.
Despite signing Moussa Dembele, Jack Hendry, Demarai Gray, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson ahead of their first campaign under Gerrard, Al-Ettifaq sit eighth in the table and are winless in their last nine games across all competitions.

On Thursday, Henderson terminated his contract with the club after less than six months in the Gulf, subsequently joining Eredivisie giants Ajax.
However, his fellow former Liverpool captain Gerrard will be sticking around in Saudi Arabia, having agreed to extend the initial two-year deal he signed upon his arrival in the country.
Speaking to the club’s website, Gerrard said: “This is very pleasing for myself and my family and feels like recognition for a lot of hard work and commitment.

“We knew at the beginning this was a big job and a challenging job. We had to put in place new infrastructure, like building a new training ground in phases and building a new stadium.
“But a lot has been achieved. It’s a relationship with me and the management team above me that’s growing and building. It’s getting stronger, and I’m really looking forward to the future.”
