Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier has withdrawn from England’s squad ahead of Monday’s trip to North Macedonia for their final game in Euro 2024 qualifying.
England confirmed on Sunday that Trippier had not featured in their final training session before departing for Skopje, saying he would leave the Three Lions camp due to a “personal matter”.
Trippier’s club subsequently confirmed on social media that he had returned to Tyneside. He played 90 minutes as England beat Malta 2-0 on Friday in their final home game of the qualification campaign.
England wrapped up qualification for next year’s tournament in Germany by beating Italy 3-1 at Wembley Stadium last month, and they sit six points clear of the second-placed Azzurri – who face Ukraine in a decisive clash on Monday – at the top of Group C.
Newcastle return to Premier League action next Saturday when they welcome Chelsea to St James’ Park, before facing Paris Saint-Germain in a huge Champions League fixture three days later.
