Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa has signed for Manchester United ahead of the upcoming Women’s Super League campaign.
The 23-year-old joins the Red Devils on the back of having won the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup golden boot, after scoring five goals in four games for Japan, who reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Sweden.
Man Utd will be hoping that Miyazawa can help them go one step further than last season, which saw them finish runners-up in the WSL behind Chelsea. She will also no doubt play a key part in her new club’s UEFA Champions League campaign.
Miyazawa has spent the previous two campaigns playing in her native country for Japanese WE League side Munavi Sendai and prior to that had spent two years at Tokyo Verdy Beleza. She made her senior debut for Japan back in November 2018 after having represented her country at youth level, scoring the opening goal in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup final, which saw Japan overcome Spain.
Speaking to Man Utd’s official website, Miyazawa said: “I am truly very happy to be part of this wonderful family and this great team. I am really looking forward to getting started and hope my style of play will excite our fans.”
Man Utd women’s boss Marc Skinner added: “Hinata joins our United family having proven her qualities at the highest level. As her Golden Boot win at this summer’s Women’s World Cup has shown, she will excite our fantastic fans with her direct style of play and her ability to find the most dangerous spaces. We cannot wait to see her develop even further within our playing squad.”
Miyazawa will make her domestic debut for the Red Devils away to Aston Villa in the opening round of the 2023-24 WSL on October 1st.
