As we begin to direct our thoughts towards the upcoming round of Premier League fixtures, it’s time to assess those defenders who could end up as lucrative Gameweek 10 assets from an FPL perspective.
The ultimate premium asset among defenders right now in Kieran Trippier (£7.0m) regained his title as the current highest-scoring FPL player in his position following Gameweek 9. The experienced right-back recorded his sixth assist across the past four gameweeks in Newcastle’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace and ending up with 10 fantasy points, his third double-figure haul since Gameweek 6. He remains one of the top five highest scoring FPL assets so far this campaign and justifies his high cost ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Wolves in Gameweek 10.
Although Ben White (£5.6m) had a Gameweek 9 to forget having failed to accrue a single point against Chelsea after being booked and being part of an Arsenal defence that conceded two goals, he remains a high-value fantasy player. White boasts 34 FPL points to his name since Gameweek 5 and with bottom-placed Sheffield Utd the visitors to Emirates Stadium in Gameweek 10, the expectation is that White could gain a significant haul.
Multiple defenders from Aston Villa are worthy of consideration from FPL managers going into Gameweek 10 with a home clash with Luton on the horizon. Unai Emery’s side have racked up 17 goals in four Premier League fixtures at Villa Park in 2023-24 with the likes of Matty Cash (£5.1m), Ezri Konsa (£4.5m) and Lucas Digne (£4.7m) all contributing attacking returns.
Another club with a favourable home fixture in Gameweek 10 is Liverpool, who take on a Nottingham Forest side who have failed to score in each of their last two away league matches. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.9m) offers a points outlet both from an attacking and defensive perspective, whilst Andy Robertson’s injury opens the door for a potential budget starter at left-back in Konstantinos Tsimikas (£4.5m).
