FPL 2023-24 – Gameweek 10 Round-Up

-

The tenth gameweek of the 2023-24 campaign is at an end and saw exactly 30 goals scored, three less than Gameweek 9 with six clubs keeping clean sheets. We take a look at the games that took place and what they meant from an FPL point of view.

Gameweek 10 opened up with Spurs cementing their place at the top of the table with a 0-2 Friday night victory away at Crystal Palace. Popular FPL midfielders James Maddison (£8.1m) and Heung-Min Son (£9.6m) each recorded an attacking return, the former assisting the opening goal, while Son netted the second. It’s now consecutive double-figure FPL returns for Son, who has racked up 24 points over the past two gameweeks.

Rivals Chelsea were beaten 0-2 by Brentford in the second London derby of Gameweek 10. After going four gameweeks without an attacking return, Bryan Mbeumo (£6.7m) is back with a bang, recording a goal and an assist for a second consecutive match and he ended up gaining 13 fantasy points here. Arsenal however, made light work of Sheffield Utd at Emirates Stadium, winning 5-0 with an Eddie Nketiah (£5.6m) hat-trick the highlight. Bukayo Saka (£8.6m) also made it nine attacking returns in as many gameweeks with a single assist against the Blades.

Bournemouth bagged their first Premier League win of the season, overcoming Burnley 2-1, while Wolves and Newcastle played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Molineux. Pedro Neto (£5.8m) picked up his eighth assist of the campaign before a hamstring injury saw him forced off the pitch and fellow in-form Wolves Hwang Hee-chan (£5.5m) was on the scoresheet for the third time in four gameweeks as the hosts twice pegged back Newcastle, for whom Callum Wilson (£7.8m) bagged a brace.

Sunday saw five matches take place, the first of those ending in somewhat of a surprise result as Everton got the better of West Ham by a goal to nil at the London Stadium, Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.8m) the scorer. Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) maintained his record of netting in every Liverpool home league fixture so far this season as the Reds brushed Nottingham Forest aside 3-0. Salah accrued 8 fantasy points, while forward Darwin Nunez (£7.5m) managed 10 points due to a goal and an assist.

Brighton were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham, in a match which saw Evan Ferguson (£6.0m) back on the scoresheet for the Seagulls for the first time since his Gameweek 4 hat-trick against Newcastle. Aston Villa continued their excellent form with a 3-1 beating of Luton, although the highly owned Ollie Watkins (£8.4m) failed to gain an attacking return despite an xGI of 1.40.

The big story came in the final Gameweek 10 fixture of the weekend at Old Trafford, as champions Man City dismantled Man Utd by three goals to nil. Erling Haaland (£14.0m) served as chief destroyer, scoring the first two goals and would have had more if not for the heroics of home goalkeeper Andre Onana (£4.8m). Haaland went on to assist Phil Foden (£7.5m) for City’s third goal, ultimately finishing on a mammoth 16 FPL points, the Norwegian’s second highest individual fantasy score of the season.
