FPL 2023-24 – Gameweek 11 Round-Up

-

The eleventh gameweek of the 2023-24 season ended in breathless fashion and saw 30 goals scored for a second consecutive gameweek, although only four clubs kept clean sheets on this occasion compared to six shutouts in Gameweek 10. We look back at the games that took place and what they meant from a fantasy point of view.

Gameweek 11 began with Man Utd struggling to a vital 0-1 victory away at Fulham thanks to a late Bruno Fernandes (£8.3m) winner. But while that match was short of goals, the London Derby at Brentford later in the day certainly wasn’t. The Bees overcame West Ham 3-2 in a thrilling contest which saw Hammers winger Jarrod Bowen (£7.4m) extend his unbelievable record of scoring in every away Premier League fixture so far this season.

Brentford weren’t the only top flight London team to win on Saturday as Crystal Palace picked up a precious three points on the road at Burnley. Tyrick Mitchell (£4.5m) and Jeffrey Schlupp (£4.9m) were both on the scoresheet as the Eagles piled more pressure onto under-fire Burnley boss Vincent Kompany and his struggling side. Another relegation-threatened club in Everton were left disappointed after a late Brighton equaliser salvaged a 1-1 draw for the Seagulls at Goodison Park. It was a hugely fortunate leveller, a cross for Kaoru Mitoma (£6.5m) taking a wicked deflection off Everton’s Ashley Young (£4.4m) and looping into the net.

Jeremy Doku (£6.6m) was responsible for the biggest haul of the weekend, recording a whopping four assists along with a goal and 22 FPL points as champions Man City destroyed Bournemouth 6-1. Bernardo Silva (£6.3m) bagged a brace but main striker Erling Haaland (£14.0m) was substituted off at half-time without an attacking return to his name due to an ankle issue.

Sheffield Utd picked up a priceless three points vs Wolves, courtesy of a last-gasp penalty from Oliver Norwood (£4.8m). Cameron Archer (£4.5m) had given the Blades the lead but they were pegged back by Gary O’Neil’s side through Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (£4.9m). Saturday concluded with Newcastle ending Arsenal’s unbeaten Premier League season, beating Mikel Arteta’s side 1-0 at St. James Park. Anthony Gordon (£5.7m) is growing in popularity within the FPL community and it was his goal that secured the win.

Sunday began with a shock as Nottingham Forest ended another long unbeaten run, defeating Aston Villa by two goals to nil. When taking into account the many Villa players owned by fantasy bosses such as Matty Cash (£5.2m) and Ollie Watkins (£8.4m), this was a less than ideal result. It got even worse later in the day as the likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) and Darwin Nunez (£7.5m) missed guilt-edged chances and ultimately drew a blank vs Luton. The Hatters were on their way to a famous win after scoring with ten minutes to goal, before Luis Diaz (£7.4m) equalised deep into stoppage time.

The best however, was saved until last in an enthralling Monday Night London Derby. It was an end-to-end battle full of aggression and needle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which saw two red cards for Spurs pair Cristian Romero (£5.0m) and Destiny Udogie (£4.8m), two disallowed goals for Chelsea and a Nicolas Jackson (£6.8m) hat-trick as the Blues eventually triumphed 1-4 to keep Ange Postecoglou’s side off the top of the table.
