FPL 2023-24 – Three Things We Learned In Gameweek 11

-

The eleventh gameweek of the 2023-24 season was rammed full of drama with a number of huge developments that will affect the planning of Fantasy Premier League managers moving forward. We’ve highlighted three key points with an eye on Gameweek 12 in the near future.

SPURS SUSPENSIONS

The unbeaten record of Spurs in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou came to an end in dramatic fashion on Monday night as they were beaten 1-4 by Chelsea. But this wasn’t half of the story. From an FPL point of view, the most important thing to take from that match was the sending off of two Spurs defenders who have proven lucrative fantasy assets this season. Cristian Romero (£5.0m) was first to be dismissed in the first half and he was followed later in the game by Destiny Udogie (£4.8m), who picked up two yellow cards. Not only did both end the night with an FPL score of -4 points, each are now suspended for Gameweek 12 with Romero out for the next three gameweeks.

HAALAND INJURY CONCERN

Most were understandably expecting Erling Haaland (£14.0m) to rack up a big points haul come Gameweek 11 with Man City at home to Bournemouth. Alas they were all disappointed. Firstly, the Norwegian failed to gain an attacking return from any of Man City’s three first half goals. Haaland was then victim of a half-time substitution, meaning he finished with just the 1 fantasy point. Man City boss Pep Guardiola stated afterwards that Haaland has an ankle issue and his minutes may need to be managed. This doesn’t bode well moving forward for FPL managers when taking into account Haaland’s premium cost. Plenty of eyes will therefore be on the Man City team sheet for their Champions League clash with Young Boys in midweek.

CRACKS REMAIN AT MAN UTD

Plenty will have been interested to see if Man Utd would bounce back in Gameweek 11 following a nightmare week that had seen them fall to back-to-back 0-3 defeats in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup against Man City and Newcastle respectively. Erik ten Hag’s side didn’t have it their own way vs Fulham, but a late goal from Bruno Fernandes (£8.3m) saw them edge out the Cottagers. However, the result won’t have done much to attract much FPL attention towards United players ahead of Gameweek 12, especially with Marcus Rashford (£8.6m) missing the win at Fulham through injury.
