FPL 2023-24 – Gameweek 14 Defenders

-

In the midst of a busy week of European action, we’ve already got our eye on Gameweek 14 and are picking out a selection of defenders who may end up being lucrative Fantasy Premier League assets.

Arsenal have already kept two clean sheets this week in all competitions and it would be no surprise to see their backline profit from an FPL perspective against Wolves in Gameweek. The Gunners already boast defenders who are among the top five fantasy scorers across the season so far in that position. Expect the likes of William Saliba (£5.5m), Ben White (£5.7m) and Oleksandr Zinchenko (£5.1m) all to attract interest. Saliba boasts 15 points over the last two gameweeks and only Kieran Trippier has picked up more points than him over the course of the campaign.

Following his recent FPL rejuvenation, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.9m) makes a serious case for selection in Gameweek 14 despite his premium cost. The flying full-back backed up his 7-point score in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Brentford with the equalising goal in Gameweek 13 as the Reds came back to snatch a draw away at Man City. Fulham at home is a fixture which will surely pique the interest of fantasy bosses and when considering the multiple avenues from which Alexander-Arnold can accumulate FPL returns, he could well be in for a big haul.

Alexander-Arnold isn’t the only Liverpool defender who appeals, with centre-back Virgil Van Dijk (£6.1m) available for those who cannot afford to spend the huge fee required to transfer in the former. Meanwhile Vitalii Mykolenko (£4.4m) almost continued his recent run of attacking returns for Everton last weekend, hitting the crossbar against Man Utd. Mykolenko boasts two goals, an assist and 21 fantasy points since Gameweek 11 and at such a cheap price-tag, deserves significant FPL consideration ahead of the Toffees’ Gameweek 14 trip to Nottingham Forest.
