FPL 2023-24 – Gameweek 14 Rotation Risks

-

It’s understandable for FPL managers to be worried about potential Premier League rotation following a midweek round of European club fixtures. When taking this into account, we pick out any key playing assets who may find their starting positions not totally secure going into Gameweek 14.

Due to him nursing an injury, Man Utd forward Rasmus Hojlund (£7.0m) didn’t not feature in Gameweek 13 as Erik ten Hag’s side defeated Everton 0-3 at Goodison Park. However, after returning to full training, Hojlund was back among the starters in United’s midweek Champions League with Galatasaray. But having only just recovered from injury, it would be a big ask for the Danish striker to start another tough Premier League fixture away at Newcastle just three days later. With that in mind, Hojlund could well find himself rotated out of the Man Utd starting line-up in Gameweek 14, with Anthony Martial (£6.4m) returning to the XI instead.

Another club where rotation at the front-end of the pitch may be on the cards in Gameweek 14 is Liverpool. The Reds lined up with a front three of Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), Cody Gakpo (£7.2m) and Luis Diaz (£7.4m) in their 4-0 Europa League victory over LASK this past Thursday. Despite this, Darwin Nunez (£7.6m) started in Liverpool’s most recent Premier League fixture against Man City and the expectation is that the Uruguayan will come back into the starting XI here. This will likely spell bad news for Gakpo, who is probably most at risk of dropping to the bench despite his brace on Thursday night.

Although he was given an opportunity from the start in the Champions League midweek, Jack Grealish (£7.2m) has to be on the rotational chopping block following an awful first half which saw Man City fall two goals behind vs RB Leipzig. Pep Guardiola’s men came back to win with Jeremy Doku (£6.7m) making a positive impact from the bench. After having started each of Man City’s last three Premier League fixtures, it would be no surprise if Doku was to slot back in come Gameweek 14 against Spurs, reducing Grealish to a substitute’s role.
