As is so often the case, a number of players have emerged as hugely popular acquisitions following a successful gameweek. We look over some of the most eye-catching bandwagons and assess their FPL potential leading into Gameweek 4.
Plenty of bandwagons are starting to take shape among the Chelsea squad following their resounding 3-0 triumph over Luton in Gameweek 3. Not least that of defender Malo Gusto (£4.1m), whose two assists, clean sheet and 14-point-haul has led to over 580,000 people bringing in the left-back ahead of Chelsea’s home fixture against Nottingham Forest this weekend. The most popular Chelsea acquisition however, has been Raheem Sterling (£7.2m). He has proved himself as a valuable FPL asset in the past going back to his Man City days and his 19 points accrued against Luton thanks to two goals and an assist, has led to a cascade of new owners, over 850,000 of them to be precise.
One unlikely bandwagon emerging ahead of Gameweek 4 is coming from the Man City midfielder. Namely, Spanish international Rodri (£5.7m), who has developed quite the appetite for attacking returns and fantasy points so far in 2023-24. Across the three gameweeks played, Rodrigo has recorded two double-figure point-scores, gaining two goals and an assist in the process. Despite his job being primarily to protect the Man City backline, that hasn’t stopped over 175,000 FPL managers buying the generously priced 17-year-old.
It’s perhaps no surprise that plenty of fantasy bosses are now starting to really take note of the bargain-priced Alphonse Areola (£4.1m) following recent performances. A penalty save and 10-point haul against Chelsea in Gameweek 2 was followed up by a whopping nine saves vs Brighton in Gameweek 3, ensuring 5 FPL points despite conceding a goal. Areola is the most popular goalkeeper in terms of transfers leading into Gameweek 4, which sees West Ham face Luton. Midfielders Jarrod Bowen (£7.0m) and James Ward-Prowse (£6.0m) are also commanding attention and a high fantasy score for either at Kenilworth Road could see their respective bandwagons step up a gear.
