No sooner has the latest round of Premier League matches come to a conclusion, a number of defenders hold enticing appeal for FPL managers looking ahead to Gameweek 6.
With Man City at home to Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 6, the expectation for them to keep a clean sheet will be high. This should lead to numerous FPL bosses playing the ‘Pep Roulette’ in a bid to try and capitalise on any Man City defenders who are selected in the starting line-up. Ruben Dias (£5.5m) and Kyle Walker (£5.2m) are the most likely City defenders to start, although new signing Josko Gvardiol (£5.1m) has started in three of Man City’s last four league games. However, a start in the Champions League midweek could give a clue as to whether Gvardiol will feature or not come Gameweek 6.
Whilst Chelsea recorded a clean sheet in Gameweek 5, many fantasy managers didn’t profit due to the benching of Ben Chilwell (£5.8m). With an ownership of over 30%, it will have been a tough blow to take. Reece James’ hamstring meant Malo Gusto (£4.2m) continued at right-back, profiting with 6 FPL points. Although James is due back soon, Gusto still holds significant attraction in Gameweek 6, which sees the Blues host Aston Villa.
Brighton defensive assets should also come under the radar with the Seagulls at home to Fulham in Gameweek 6. Pervis Estupinan (£5.3m) was afforded a rest in Gameweek 5, immediately following the international break but is likely to be in the starting line-up. However, his replacement Tariq Lamptey (£3.9m) was a huge success at Old Trafford this past weekend, picking up two assists in a 1-3 win for Brighton. Roberto De Zerbi’s starting line-up in their Europa League clash with AEK Athens on Thursday could provide a clue as to what the Italian is planning for the Bournemouth match.
