The five gameweek of the 2023-24 campaign and the first following an international break is over and done with. Therefore, we take the opportunity to pick out three fantasy related points to take note of from the latest round of Premier League fixtures played, which may play a part in an FPL managers’ thinking looking ahead to Gameweek 6.
JACKSON ONE SLIP OF THE TONGUE FROM SUSPENSION
It has been a huge problem and a real source of frustration within his FPL ownership, that being Nicolas Jackson (£7.0m) and his penchant for receiving yellow cards. In the five gameweeks played so far, Chelsea forward Jackson has been booked in four of those. His main issue has been poor discipline, which has cost him with new strict new rules seeing referees act accordingly. One more yellow card for Jackson in the Premier League will see him serve a one-match suspension.
SALAH STILL WORTHY OF WEIGHTY PRICE-TAG
Due to the plentiful midfield options available at cheap prices, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) hasn’t been as highly owned as you would usually expect from a player of his quality. But as always, his FPL returns are plentiful. Each gameweek so far has seen the Egyptian record at least one attacking return for Liverpool and Salah picked up his first double-figure FPL score in Gameweek 5, racking up 10 points overall. As it stands, only three players in all positions have recorded more than Salah’s 33 points and those FPL managers with money to spare should be investing in the premium midfield.
DOKU MAN CITY’S NEW PRIZED ASSET
Making his second consecutive start for Man City, winger Jeremy Doku (£6.5m) showed why he should prove an excellent signing for the Premier League champions and why his FPL potential is highly enticing. Doku’s direct play was a huge threat to the West Ham backline in Gameweek 5 and he eventually made his mark, scoring an excellent goal. Should he manage to nail a permanent place in Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up, Doku’s fantasy ownership should shoot up.
