We take a look at the lay of the land when it comes to FPL forwards ahead of Gameweek 6.
Somewhat surprisingly, no forward managed to reach double figures for points in Gameweek 5, but Julian Alvarez (£6.8m) came the closest with the World Cup winner notching two assists in Man City’s victory at West Ham. That is now five attacking returns in the last two Premier League games for the £6.8m-priced forward, who also scored twice in the Champions League on Tuesday. Fellow City forward Erling Haaland (£14.1), who has accumulated more FPL points than any other player so far, also got his customary goal, with his status as ‘perma-captain’ unlikely to change anytime soon. The league leaders host Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 6, so the points ceiling will be high for the Man City duo.
Another striker in fine form right now is Odsonne Edouard (£5.6m), who scored his fourth Premier League goal of the campaign in the defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday. Among forwards, only the aforementioned Haaland and Alvarez have more FPL points to their name than the Crystal Palace striker this season. The Eagles host Fulham in Gameweek 6, with Edouard hoping to continue his hot streak.
Those who have owned Ollie Watkins (£7.9m) since the start of the season surely have mixed feeling about the Aston Villa striker. Although he is yet to score in the current Premier League campaign, he has been remarkably consistent with assists having set up four goals in five games to date. Teammate Jhon Duran (£5.0m), meanwhile, is surely pushing for more minutes having scored twice from the bench in the Premier League this season, his latest a stunning strike against Crystal Palace.
If you’re talking about consistent returns though, there are very few more reliable than Taiwo Awoniyi (£6.6m) right now, whose assist against Burnley in Gameweek 5 made it nine consecutive Premier League games in which he has either scored or assisted. The Nottingham Forest striker still only features in 6% of teams at present, although a tough trip to leaders Man City awaits Steve Cooper’s side in Gameweek 6.
