As we already begin to look ahead towards the next round of Premier League fixtures, it’s time to cast an eye on those shrewd goalkeeper picks who stand out going into Gameweek 8.
Since breaking into the Arsenal starting XI, David Raya (£4.8m) has proven extremely dependable between the sticks for the Gunners, keeping Aaron Ramsdale (£4.9m) out of the team, no mean feat. Raya’s three Premier League starts for Arsenal so far have seen him accrue two clean sheets and 16 FPL points. However, Mikel Arteta’s side face their toughest test of the season in Gameweek 8 as Man City travel to North London. However, while Raya faces a huge task to keep a clean sheet, he could still accumulate a healthy fantasy score through the number of saves he makes. Wolves’ Jose Sa (£5.0m) did just this in Double Gameweek 7, recording 7 saves and 4 fantasy points as his side defeated the champions by two goals to one.
Longtime reliable FPL goalkeeping asset Nick Pope (£5.5m) is starting to come good again for his ownership, having racked up three Premier League clean sheets on the bounce and three consecutive 6-point scores. He will be looking to keep that run going in Gameweek 8, which sees him come up against another goalkeeper on the back of a Double Gameweek 7 shutout, that being West Ham’s Alphonse Areola (£4.2m).
Robert Sanchez (£4.6m) has been quietly acquiring a very healthy number of FPL points over the past three gameweeks, picking up 21 in total over that period, conceding just one goal and recording 13 saves. Chelsea are away to Burnley in Gameweek 8, who have had their troubles going forward so far this season. Elsewhere, on the back of successive clean sheets and 17 fantasy points, owners of Sam Johnstone (£4.5m) will be hoping he continues this excellent run for Crystal Palace, who host Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 8.
