As the Gameweek 9 deadline looms large, we shine a spotlight on Man City forward Julian Alvarez (£7.1m), who will be looking to add to his goal tally this season against Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.
At the start of the campaign, most FPL managers only had eyes for Erling Haaland when it came to Man City forward assets and understandably so. However, another forward has made a big splash within fantasy quarters for the Premier League champions, that being Julian Alvarez. The Argentina international star and World Cup winner has established himself as a regular starter among Pep Guardiola’s first XI and his FPL owners have profited hugely.
Beginning the season with an assist in Gameweek 1, Alvarez backed that up with his first Premier League goal of the new campaign at home to Newcastle. Across the first eight gameweeks played so far, the 23-year-old has blanked just three times and boasts four attacking returns across three home league fixtures, accruing 22 points across those specific matches.
Alvarez’s form shows no signs of slowing down, he has already netted three times in just two Champions League group stage fixtures, meaning his tally for the season in all competitions currently stands at six goals. From an FPL perspective, only two forwards have recorded a higher fantasy score than Alvarez’s 48 points, one of those being teammate Haaland.
Despite having risen £0.5m in price since the start of the campaign, Alvarez still represents excellent value for those fantasy managers looking for a budget forward and despite having featured for Argentina during the international break, he is expected to maintain his run of starting in every Premier League fixture for Man City so far this season in Gameweek 9, which sees the champions face Brighton. The Seagulls conceded six goals in their last away league fixture at Aston Villa.
