As Gameweek 17 starts to creep up on Fantasy Premier League managers, we take the opportunity to cast a spotlight on in-form Wolves star Matheus Cunha (£5.7m), who will look to carry on his recent spate of attacking returns this coming weekend.

Although Matheus Cunha has never been a prolific goalscorer throughout his career, 2023-24 is so far proving to be somewhat of a breakthrough campaign for the Brazilian international, who is starting to show his undoubted quality for Wolves under Gary O’Neil having added a high level of consistency to his game.
Cunha was signed by Wolves in January on loan from Atletico Madrid, but across 20 appearances in all competitions under Julen Lopetegui, he only managed two goals with no assists. Such statistics unsurprisingly saw him very much ignored by the FPL fraternity with no value in owning him as an asset.
The move was made permanent in the summer and since then, Cunha has shone at Molineux having now adapted fully to the Premier League. He scored his first league goal of the season back in Gameweek 4 at home to Crystal Palace but it’s his form over the past few weeks that has seen fantasy managers sit up and take notice.
Across the past five gameweeks, Cunha has racked up as many attacking returns, three goals and two assists to be precise. He now heads into Gameweek 17 looking to extend his streak of accruing at least one attacking return to six gameweeks in a row. Over the course of this period, the 24-year-old has accumulated 31 FPL points, averaging over 5 points per fixture since Gameweek 12.
Wolves travel to West Ham in Gameweek 17, who have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last nine league matches. Their defensive fragility of the Hammers enhances Cunha’s fantasy appeal and it would be no surprise if he proved to be one of the top-scoring FPL forwards across the weekend.
