FPL 2023-24 – Spotlight On Rasmus Hojlund Ahead Of Gameweek 6

-

It took a while for Rasmus Hojlund (£7.1m) to get himself into condition to play for his new club, but he has well and truly arrived now and he could represent an interesting option for FPL managers in the coming weeks.

Man Utd have been crying out for a striker for some time now. Anthony Martial, talented though he is, just simply can’t stay fit enough to play several games in succession, while Marcus Rashford’s best position is undoubtedly on the left side of attack. When Rashford plays centrally, Utd lose a key component of their attack on the flank.

Enter Hojlund, a summer signing from Italian side Atalanta. The Dane scored just nine Serie A goals in 32 appearances last season, so he has very much been signed on potential. He certainly has age on his side though, as he has plenty of time to improve given that he is only 20.

The striker made his debut for his new club when he came off the bench in the second half of Man Utd’s defeat to Arsenal in Gameweek 4, and his first start soon followed when Erik ten Hag named in his starting XI for the defeat to Brighton last weekend. Despite the disappointing defeat suffered by the Red Devils, Hojlund caught the eye and even found the net, only for VAR to rule it out for a marginal offside.

The Dane’s first goal for the club came against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, and Utd fans are hoping that will be the first of many as they welcome their new striker with open arms.

With the highly-owned yet underperforming Nicolas Jackson being shown the exit door by swathes of FPL managers, there will be many searching for a new striker to fill their squads. Hojlund could be just the man for the job.
