Bayern Munich are close to their first signing for the January transfer window with the Bavarians agreeing a £3 million fee with Adelaide United for Nestory Irankunda.
The 17-year-old attacker began his youth career with the Adelaide Croatia Raiders before then moving on to join Adelaide United in 2021, making his professional debut for their youth team that same year where he scored six goals in 30 appearances.
Since moving into the first-team, Irankunda has scored nine goals in 38 appearances for the South Australian club, impressing with some remarkable strikes late on for The Reds.
Internationally, he has represented the Australian U17 side, scoring 11 goals in seven matches for the youth team. However, he was born in Tanzania so can represent them, too. He is also eligible to play for Burundi, too.
Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich enjoyed an impressive and busy summer transfer window a few months ago, too, with the arrivals of Kim Min-jae, Harry Kane, Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro. They narrowly missed out on the signing of Joao Palhinha on the final day of the window so could continue to reinforce their squad in that position with the likes of Trevoh Chalobah and Kalvin Phillips linked with the German champions.
Bayern have started the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign with eight victories and two draws, scoring 38 goals in the process, as they seek to defend their title and aim for eleven German titles in a row. One of their summer signings, Harry Kane, has had an excellent start to the season with 15 goals in ten Bundesliga matches.
It is unclear as to whether Irankunda will go straight into the Bayern first-team or whether he will follow a similar route to that of Garang Kuol, who left the A-League for Newcastle United in January but has since had two loan spells at Hearts and then Volendam.
