Real Madrid have confirmed that their forward, Rodrygo, has signed a new contract with the club with an improved salary that will keep him contracted until the summer of 2028.
Over the course of those five years, it has been confirmed that Rodrygo has a transfer release clause of one billion euros, which equates to around £873 million.
The 22-year-old Orasco-born forward began his youth career with Santos at the age of ten in 2011. He played six years with their academy before becoming a professional with the club in 2017 at 16-years-old.
In three seasons with ‘Alvinegro’, Rodrygo scored 17 goals in 80 appearances across all competitions and was given the Campeonato Paulista ‘Best Newcomer’ award in 2018.
Real Madrid agreed a 45 million euro deal with Santos for the player in June 2018 with him set to join the Spanish giants in June 2019.
Whilst with Los Blancos, he has played three times for the Real Madrid Castilla side but has made a further 176 appearances for the first-team, scoring 39 goals in that time.
During his time at the Santiago de Bernabeu, Rodrygo has won two La Liga titles as well as one Copa del Rey. He has also helped them win two Supercopa de Espana, one UEFA Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
Internationally, he made 20 appearances for the Brazilian youth sides at U17, U20 and U23 level and has also scored four goals in 18 caps for the Selecao. He was a part of the Brazil squad that reached the quarter-finals at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar last winter.
Rodrygo’s commitment to Real Madrid will provoke questions about the viability of Madrid’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain and France forward, Kylian Mbappe, with Vinicius Junior also signing a new deal with the club last month.
