As the Gameweek 11 deadline is now looming in the distance, we shine a spotlight on Brentford midfielder Bryan Mbeumo (£6.7m), who will be looking to maintain his recent resurgence against West Ham come Saturday afternoon.
The suspension of Ivan Toney at the start of the season meant plenty of pressure on Bryan Mbeumo’s shoulders to supply attacking returns for Brentford. Often fielded as part of a front three or front two despite being listed as a midfielder in FPL, Mbeumo started the season on fire for the Bees. The first four gameweeks of the 2023-24 campaign saw the Cameroon international score four times, accumulating 33 fantasy points in the process.
Since that run of returns, Mbeumo had suffered an attacking drought as the goals suddenly dried up. The 24-year-old went four consecutive gameweeks without scoring or assisting, which led to him being sold en masse by disgruntled FPL managers. From a fantasy perspective, it was a huge fall from grace for a player who had been bought by over one million FPL managers ahead of Gameweek 3.
However, come the past couple of gameweeks, Mbeumo has rebounded and reminded everyone as to why he remains excellent value for FPL managers looking for a cheaper midfielder. A goal, an assist and 14 fantasy points against Burnley in Gameweek 9 was backed up with another goal and assist in a 0-2 victory away at Chelsea. With 27 points across those two gameweeks, Mbeumo is gaining owners again heading into Gameweek 11.
Brentford face another London derby on Saturday, with West Ham their opponents. The Hammers have kept just one clean sheet in ten Premier League fixtures so far this season and with Brentford in form and on the back of having scored five times across their last two league matches, it does bode well for Mbeumo’s FPL prospects come Gameweek 11.
