As we begin to set our sights towards the next round of Premier League fixtures, it’s time to weigh up those defenders who may end up as valuable Gameweek 11 assets from an FPL standpoint.
Of the seven highest-scoring FPL defenders after ten gameweeks, two of them play for Spurs. Cristian Romero (£4.9m) and Micky van de Ven (£4.7m) have each been part of a backline who have conceded just two home Premier League goals so far this season. With that in mind, both are likely to attract significant fantasy attention ahead of Gameweek 11, which sees Spurs host Chelsea. Romero in particular, has impressed recently with 20 fantasy points gained across the last three gameweeks. After starting in their midweek Carabao Cup match, the visitors may give a first Premier League start to captain Reece James (£5.3m) following his most recent injury layoff.
Following a rare blank in Gameweek 10, owners of Kieran Trippier (£7.0m) will be hoping the full-back bounces back strongly this weekend, but it won’t be easy with Newcastle facing a difficult home match against Arsenal, who remain unbeaten in this season’s Premier League so far. Trippier has recorded six assists in his last five league appearances for the Magpies.
Liverpool come into Gameweek 11 on the back of consecutive Premier League clean sheets and their defence will be looking to make it three-in-a-row away at Luton. After being rested at the weekend, Virgil van Dijk (£6.1m) should come back into the side, while Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.9m) offers a point of difference for FPL managers in the form of his set piece prowess.
Merseyside rivals Everton boast three clean sheets from their last four in all competitions, James Tarkowski (£4.4m) starting in all four matches, scoring in midweek against Burnley in the Carabao Cup. He offers excellent value ahead of the Toffees’ Gameweek 11 clash with Brighton, while Man City defenders are likely to prove popular with them playing Bournemouth at home, although they come with an element of risk due to Pep Guardiola’s penchant to rotate.
