FPL 2023-24 – Gameweek 12 Defenders

-

As we begin to train our thoughts towards the next round of Premier League fixtures, it’s time to assess those defenders who may end up as valuable Gameweek 12 assets from an FPL standpoint.

Having kept clean sheets in each of their last two home league fixtures Arsenal defenders are likely to prove popular when taking into account the Gunners’ Gameweek 12 clash against struggling Burnley at Emirates Stadium. Ben White (£5.7m) is currently the third highest scoring fantasy asset with 53 points to his name and teammate William Saliba (£5.2m) also sits within the top five FPL scoring defenders. They face a Clarets side on the back of six defeats in seven league matches.

One of those who have accrued more fantasy points than both White and Saliba so far this season is Joachim Andersen (£5.1m), the Crystal Palace centre-back having now gained 59 points following his fifth clean sheet of the campaign in Gameweek 11. The Eagles have shut their opponents out in four of the last six gameweeks, which bodes well for Andersen’s prospects in Gameweek 12 as Palace host Everton. Left-back Tyrick Mitchell (£4.6m) was on the scoresheet away at Burnley last time out and may also court significant FPL attention.

Newcastle were back among the clean sheets in Gameweek 11 and Kieran Trippier (£7.0m) was back among the FPL points. The Magpies defeated Arsenal 1-0, their fifth league shutout since Gameweek 5 and this saw England international Trippier accrue three bonus points, leading to a final fantasy score of 9 points. No defender has accumulated more FPL returns than the experienced right-back and with 55 points to his name across the last six gameweeks, expectations for the highly-owned Trippier will be through the roof going into Gameweek 12, which sees Newcastle travel to Bournemouth and face Eddie Howe’s old side. Especially when taking into account Trippier’s high volume of assists already this season (six in the Premier League).
